  :                                                             Running Loose

 

           Setting: The story is set in a in small town Idaho called Trout, a good community of white residents. The smallness of the town is good because the characters have  known each other for a long time and have small-town attitudes—the good ones and bad ones.

 

      Main character:  is Louie; his best friend, Carter, is an interesting character who remains somewhat energized. He is the hero of the school, good at everything, and a friend to the end. In spite of some hard times in his life, Carter has learned how to controle a good attitude. The the class bully/tough guy, is Boomer. Boomer's father is very hard on him, using hard core punishment if gets in trouble. The readers learn something about Boomer's parents, they may understand  why people act the way they do.

 

 

     Louie Banks starts his senior year with high hopes of having a good football season, graduating, and getting into college. The year begins well.

 

     He is in shape due to hard work over summer, and the football team is off to another winning record.  A smart, pretty cheerleader decides she likes him, so he has a good personal relationship. But trouble begins when the coach gives crap that the black quarterback for their toughest opponent should be put "out of the game!

Awasin and Jamie, brothers in courage, meet a challenge many mountain men could not survive.  When their canoe is destroyed by  the rapids, they must face the wilderness with no food and no hope of rescue.  To survive, they build an igloo, fight a towering grizzly bear, track several wolves, kill caribou for food and clothing.  Two lost huskies they tame them to become friends--and maybe a way home from their dangerous adventure.
